SONAR Forms Data Partnership with Transfix

Chattanooga-based supply chain intelligence platform SONAR has entered into a data partnership with Transfix, a New York City-based provider of logistics technology and data solutions. This collaboration will integrate SONAR’s extensive truckload market data—such as rates, volumes, and capacity information—into Transfix’s Data Solutions platform. Transfix’s platform uses machine learning and AI to help brokers efficiently respond to RFPs, ensuring they win freight while maintaining sustainable margins.

Jonathan Salama, CEO and co-founder of Transfix, emphasized the growing industry focus on pricing solutions that improve margins and revenue. He stated, "Our product suite addresses this need, offering dynamic, data-driven solutions from cost prediction to bidding on RFPs and spot freight. Partnering with SONAR amplifies our offerings with market insights that inform our predictive tools and data models. Brokers who activate their data gain a competitive edge, particularly during RFP season, and we’re excited to help brokers nationwide with SONAR’s expertise."

Transfix, founded in 2014 as a digital freight broker, has previously built automated pricing and matching systems for its operations, offering transportation management systems to shippers and fleet management software to carriers.

Daniel Pickett, SONAR’s chief technology officer, commented, “Transfix has best-in-class transportation management and network analysis capabilities, while SONAR excels in data and forward-looking analytics. Combining our strengths will help brokers make more informed, long-term decisions.”

The partnership addresses one of the freight industry’s most challenging problems: price discovery. Historically, brokers have relied on outdated data, guesswork, and numerous phone calls to set rates. Transfix’s platform streamlines the process, enabling brokers to use algorithms to calculate rates based on both tender and market data, providing multiple data points for better decision-making.

Pickett added, "Previously, rate-finding was a guessing game. Now, with data-driven insights, brokers can make better decisions, prioritize their tasks, and manage customer relationships more effectively.”

Transfix’s Data Solutions also allows brokers to model their contract and spot rates, blending market data with historical transaction data to generate accurate forecasts. The platform helps brokers not only find rates but also assess lane desirability and predict overall freight portfolio performance.
